We take two newly opened routes – one that goes from Manali via Shinku La to Zanskar and the second that goes from Zanskar to Leh – both of these routes are easily amongst the rarest travelled roads on our planet. They offer a deep insight into the heart of the Western Himalayas.
Jispa – your first experience in the higher mountains with stunning views all around – stay at a lovely cottage/luxury tent camp by the river to enjoy the beauty all around and also to acclimatise before heading to higher altitude regions on our route
Shinku La – the newest Pass (La) that is accessible via road is as mesmerising as challenging to drive to – definitely a memorable high
Gumbo Ranjan – God’s Mountain, is an imposing, solitary peak across the Great Himalayan Range and located in the remote Kargyak Valley. The stunning mountain has a legendary feel to it and is one of the most sacred sites for Zanskari Buddhists.
Phugtal Monastery – a Buddhist monastery located in the remote Lungnak Valley in south-eastern Zanskar. It is one of the only Buddhist monasteries in Ladakh that can still be reached only by foot. A trek to the Gompa offers you some stunning views of Zanskar and an insight into the simple life of the Zanskari people and their Lamas. This monastery is nestled on the cliff-side next to the River Lungnak and it is believed that the saint and scholars have visited this site since 2,550 years ago.
Padum – in addition to the scenic beauty and splendour, Padum is also known for a set of ancient rock carvings that dates back to the 8th century. These rocks are located below the town beside a riverbank. Carvings on the rock depicts the essence of Buddhism in the region.
Shingay La, Sisir La, Fotoksar – we drive across these high passes in these remote interior Himalayas – exploring & discovering as we go along
Lamayuru – Home of one of the oldest monasteries in Ladakh, legends believe that this place was once a lake that dried up. Lamayuru is popular for its ‘lunar’ landscape and monastery.
