LEH (LADAKH FESTIVAL) – KHARDUNGLA – TURTUK – TYAKSHI – THANG -TURTUK – NUBRA VALLEY (DISKIT & HUNDER) – PANGONG TSO – CHUSHUL – REZANG LA -LOMA – HANLE -PHOTI LA – UMLING LA – TSO MORIRI – TSO KAR – LEH

HIGHLIGHTS

This is a Ladakh highlights tour as the winter starts setting in so has more rewards. Prepare for an adventure of your lifetime as the weather will stay unpredictable, chill and will surely give you a glimpse into the harsh life in the high altitude Himalayan desert region that we will be traversing.

Ladakh Festival – we get to attend the Ladakh Festival and see Ladakhi dances, singing, traditional music, traditional Ladakhi dresses. The festival is for one week with regular celebration in various villages including archery, polo, and masked dances from the monasteries and dances by cultural troupes from the villages. There are musical concerts too.

Leh – Hall of Fame & War Memorial, local market, Fort/Palace, Shanti Stupa Khardung La & Nubra Valley – we drive across Khardung La, among the highest motorable roads (17582Ft) into another world to the other side that will take your breath away at first sight. You get to see ultra-wide landscapes, humongous mountain faces, lovely trails, a wide variety of colours and musical Shyok river flowing midst the valley. Located close to Siachen Glacier, Nubra valley falls on the ancient trade route between India and Central Asia. Sand dunes with stunning windswept designs and bactrian double humped camels are the other highlight of this valley.

Turtuk & Thang – Enjoy a walk through the beautiful Baltic Mountain village – Turtuk, a village heaped in cross border history. We meet a direct descendant of the rulers of this unbelievably beautiful and nature rich mountain town. Visit the last point on the India-Pak border. We have an exclusive meeting with Goba Ali in Thang Village on the LOC – an amazing social impact worker and innovator who was separated from his parents when he was just 5 years old during the War of ’71- an interesting personality who has many a story and an amazing collection of articles of the bygone era.

Pangong Tso (Lake) – amongst the highest and most beautiful lakes on planet earth – the moment you see it you are numbed and overwhelmed with this nature’s wonder. The journey to reach Pangong through the unforgiving harsh remote terrain with a few river crossings and some high passes is what makes this one the most adventurous. Spend time driving along Pangong Tso which is 130kms long of which only 30 percent is in India and the rest in China. As we drive along this lake on one side and a string of snow capped mountains on the other, we will look for the Changthang nomadic herdsmen with their Pashmina goats.

Rezang La Memorial – Salute and Cherish the legacy of Indian Amry’s brave hearts. Rezang La Memorial is a symbol of determination and indomitable courage by our Indian Soldiers. It is a place where many Indian soldiers sacrificed their lives to protect our country from China in 1962. The battle restricted China to enter Leh during the war. Rezang La is a mountain pass on the Line of Actual Control between Indian-administered Ladakh and the Chinese-administered Spanggur Lake basin.

Umling La – we drive up to Umling La or Umlung La, the highest paved road and mountain pass in the world, located on the ridgeline between Koyul Lungpa and the Indus River near Demchok. At an elevation of 19,024 feet (5,799 m), it forms the source for the Umlung stream that drains into the Indus and a tributary of the Kiungdul river that drains into Koyul Lungpa.

Tso Moriri – The Tso Moriri Lake is located in the Changthang plateau in northern Ladakh. The lake is situated at an altitude of 4,522 m (14,836 ft) and is one of the highest saltwater lakes in India. The surrounding area of the lake is protected and is known as Tso Moriri Wetland Conservation Reserve. Being a part of the Wetland Conservation Reserve. The sacred blue lake offers impeccable scenery, which gives this place an incredibly romantic feel. While the exotic migratory birds fly above the lake, giving a heavenly feel, the calming reflections of the mountains and hills will bring peace to your soul. The changing hues of the lake will make you fall in love with nature all over again.

Tso Kar – the remote Tso Kar Lake lies about 50 km from Tso Moriri. Situated at a height of 15,280 ft, it is bordered by lofty mountains that are home to the elusive snow leopard. The area surrounding the lake is rife with wildlife and flora, and it also makes for an important point for bird watchers, especially during migration season when several species come here to lay their eggs, including the black-necked cranes.
